Painting your Hardwood Floors

Sometimes it’s great to have that one room where you can let your personality and your creativeness let loose. Get the ideas flowing, some work done, play with your children or just a place to relax that makes you happy. A trend that seems to be exploding with hardwood flooring, is bright colors! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. The choice is up to you, and the options are limitless.

How to paint your floors

1. Prep the surface- Start by sanding the floors down, just enough so that the primer will stick to the floor.

2. Clean the surface- sweep, vacuum… clean, clean, clean! This step is essential in preserving the look of your floor. If you decide to mop, let the floors completely dry, as bubbling may occur.

3. Prime- It’s always best to consult a professional. The primer may depend of the floor type and color you choose

4. Sand- One more time! Just to ensure a smooth coat is applied.

5. Color- Time to have some fun… pick a color, or colours, that appeal to you. Make a pattern, paint every other piece a different color or even apply neon to make things really stand out. Allow 24 hours for drying time. Depending on the look that you are trying to achieve, you may need more than one coat (remember to allow a 24 hour drying time between each coat).

6. All done! Enjoy your space
